Offense was completely shut down in the second half. Some production but zero points. Need a good week of practice as EKU got their first win of the season tonight over ranked SEMO.

We got two TDs in the last 8 min to tie. Then SEMO fumbled with 20 secs left. Ran a play with no TOs then tried to run on the FG team. Not sure we would have gotten it off but SEMO thought they had 12 men on the field and an assistant called TO with 1 sec left. Kicker made a 46 yard FG to win.

The thing that annoys me about our offense is the reliance on too many deep chunks that are 50/50 balls. Obviously it’s nice to hit a few of those in a game, but when they aren’t working, like in the 2nd half… you gotta find something else that works. Unfortunately I’m just not sure we have the personnel on offense to score a lot on good teams. And too many short drives are gassing our defense. The unfortunate conclusion is that we need more dudes out there, but can’t get them until the off-season.
EKU will be another tough game. If we can’t find a way to generate some more points or at least eat some clock at times, the rest of the season may not be much fun.

I saw the last minute where y’all scored 10 points!

Some things work and most doesn’t. We need consistency on offense over flashy plays that are successful about 30% (or less) of the time. The fact is that this team still has a chance to make the postseason. To start the season 2-3 isn’t great but it’s a lot better than 0-5. I do fear, however, that our injuries at running back are a big set back. Shun’D balled today for UCA over ACU. Like over 250 yards. I wish he’d gone FBS.

The offense shutting down in the second half has been a trend this season (with the exception being the UT-Chattanooga game) as well as a majority of the Chris Willis era. It's like we forget how to play offense in the 2nd Half.

Hate losing. I would rather lose with class than win with arrogance like that UTM did tonight. Their own coaches couldn’t get them off the field after the game. Stopping and waving goodbye to all the UNA fans and standing there to yell stuff. Awful look by them. We started off the 3rd quarter so well and got down to most colleges gimme FG range and yips again. Points there would have been big with 2 TD lead. When Lacey got hurt we didn’t have an answer. Driggers can get some nice runs here and there just not the threat with motions and play calling shrinks. Hate we still cannot slow down a three man rush? Our tackles get whipped too often. We do well the first half and then just do not have depth to last through the 2nd half. We are getting there, think UTM is very talented. We held our own till late and just wore slap out. Ready for next week already!

We have to have a run game to make this offense work right.
That being said, I see many bright spots.
We need a kicker for sure. Not saying we would have won, but it feels like he has cost us the opportunity to win two games... And in Coaches defense, I wouldn't have put him back in either.
What frustrated me is UTM could only get good runs against our 2nd Dline, and we would run them in crucial situations towards the end. I understand giving break, but you have to understand the situation.
Anyway, tough loss, Roar Lions 🦁

If we had him, I think we are undefeated or 4-1 at the worst. I think he would make that much of a difference. I know we benefitted from the portal, especially on defense, but man. Hard to lose an All-American talent and replace him with equal production. And certainly not with the injuries we’ve had. I guess things could be worse. Tennessee Tech beat KSU last night. The Owls have now lost to both teams we beat.

I talked to Powell while he was still in the portal...
He was back and forth, but ultimately wanted to get closer to family. I can't blame him. He did say he loved UNA and Florence, and that made his decision a tough one.
What he was shooting for was Ark State, I don't know why that didn't happen. I'm proud of him. He's a greater person than he is player if you can believe that. He will probably play on Sundays...
