Part of me envisions three separate field/stadiums in one complex. Keep baseball in the same general location, put football as it’s been drawn with it on the current practice field and then house Lions soccer on a great pitch where the current band field is. Make that area multiuse where smaller concerts or festivals etc could be contracted. The main football venue could hold larger concerts more in line with what Flowers Hall used to draw in the 70s and 80s. My parents went to see big names there back then. Just a thought. Maybe if all goes well, hire the same firms to overhaul Flowers like Davis Architects did at UF. I may have had some wine already tonight. lol. Roar Lions! One issue with putting soccer on the band field is that field won't be big enough unless they find a way to make it longer and wider. The field is really only 10 to 10, and not far beyond the back hash. The band often has to get creative to practice things there because of the smaller dimensions.

I’ve played around on the map and just don’t think the dimensions are there to make the fields work along with stadium structures around them. If you could buy the church property and level it… maybe? I think it would still be a tight squeeze. It would’ve been nice to acquire the Mitchel-Hollingsworth property at some point. But I haven’t heard talk about that in a while, so I guess that’s just not an option. Has anyone heard talk about the parking lot behind Flowers? Looney said they’ll be looking at parking solutions for the stadium. If they don’t build a deck there it’s a huge missed opportunity. Maybe they could even put a field on top of it

Article in the TimesDaily today says that UNA fundraising set a record this year with over $33 million collected. This is part of the "Shine On, Gold" program they've been running. Its goal was to raise $100 million for various projects (including the stadium if I understand correctly), and they're already at $61.7 million.
I know we're all anxious to actually *see* something happen with the stadium, but this is hopefully some good news itself.

Confirmation on the multipurpose stadium...
The only "shared" part is going to be football and soccer...
The baseball stadium will be attached to the side of the football stadium and will share amenities such as concessions and restrooms...

The baseball stadium will be attached to the side of the football stadium and will share amenities such as concessions and restrooms... Do you think there’s enough room there? It looks like it’ll be such a tight squeeze. I just don’t want them to cut corners (literally? ha) just to try to fit both fields there instead of trying to move baseball somewhere that they would have room to breathe.

From the way it was described to me, by Dr Looney, (and he said nothing is finalized yet) it will be similar to Vanderbilt except where they are two separate "buildings" these will be tied in. He said they have been to Vandy a few times just to make sure they can fit it, and they will be able to. He said the lot goes over 100 ft behind left field and the baseball field would be pushed back. It will more than likely be rotated a little (move home plate more towards first base) and the wall of the church parking lot will likely be incorporated into the design of the shape of the field. So we will have a football stadium that will be more traditional and a baseball stadium that is more traditional. He said it was a misconception and they could have probably worded the multipurpose stadium part a little differently.

Yeah I was looking again on Google last night and thought rotating the field might work. I know baseball seems to be the red-headed step child of the athletic departments at most universities. I just don’t want them to get shafted on this and be left with a stadium that’s equal or worse to what they already have. I’m not saying that’s what I think will happen… just my concern. I still wonder what they plan to do for football and band practice. And will we see shovels in the ground this year?

Band is going to have a new facility next to the softball stadium is what was told. I'm just hoping this isn't an erector set style stadium like the current baseball stands are. I would rather them dig the majority into the ground with concrete. Don't know where the football team will practice? Probably Braly?

Stepped away from the board for a few days during my kids’ spring break. Pretty awesome to come back and finally see some progress on the stadium!
I’ll be honest… I’m happy the combined football/baseball stadium idea “fell through”. I just wasn’t sure that would ever work out to be a feasible solution.
My only concern with the layout they’re proposing is if we ever want to expand the stadium on the baseball side. It looks like this could limit the possibilities there. Of course, the need to expand could be a long ways down the road, if the rest of the stadium can hold enough.
All in all I’m excited! Perhaps just two more seasons at Braly, according to this morning’s TimesDaily article.
