Landing UTC would help in every sport and really give the conference that cornerstone piece. Would love to have them on schedule for all conference games. Would force the rest of the conference to get better. Every sport but baseball

So dumb that a Southern school like UTC doesn't have a baseball team. And Chattanooga is a baseball rich town... lots of baseball history.

So dumb that a Southern school like UTC doesn't have a baseball team. You probably know this, but it's for Title IX compliance. They dropped baseball years ago to keep men's wrestling. IF they were to ever change conferences, they would have to potentially find a new home for wrestling. If they left the SoCon on bad terms, they might not be allowed to keep it there.

Is wrestling a popular sport on campus? I wouldn't think it would be as popular as baseball, and I think baseball in Chattanooga especially would actually do well.

I tried to find some stats but didn't see much. They had a match against the Citadel back in February that drew 335 fans. An old article from 2008 mentioned how they were 15th nationally in attendance that year, drawing close to a 1000 fans on average. For some comparison, Iowa led that year with an average of 7500. What's sad is, the university owns Engel Stadium, which was/is the old-school ballpark that the Lookouts played in until around 2000. It would need some work now to be restored, but I think it would be doable. Obviously adding baseball back would probably require an additional women's sport or two. I guess they don't want to spend all the money for teams that wouldn't bring in additional revenue.

ASUN needs to get West Florida and try and pull in Charleston Southern and somebody else in Carolinas . Afraid the Texas teams are bowing out. If ASUN could pull in UT-Chattanooga and East Tennessee, what a Conference…regionally.

If SFA returns to the Southland, I wonder if part of the reason is Tarleton looking likely to be moving up to CUSA. I don't see why SFA would go back to the Southland IF there were any chance they'd be getting the promotion soon. If they know Tarleton is eventually leaving, then they're seeing the writing on the wall for the WAC and making the only move they can. I assume Abilene Christian will end up doing the same.
I wonder what Southern Utah and Utah Tech end up doing? The Big Sky has no reason to take back SUU, and Utah Tech was never there to begin with. I wonder if the UAC collapses and ASUN begins football, if they would allow the Utah teams to be affiliates. I'm assuming they would find a taker between the ASUN, OVC, or even the Southland, but regardless they are likely looking at a lot of travel.
The ASUN really needs to convince West Florida and Valdosta to join the party, and hope at least one of EKU and Austin Peay will stick around long-term.

I think APSU and EKU will stick around, just a hunch. I also think West Florida is coming, but the timeline is my concern. Not concerned in a bad way, just anxious about it. Valdosta will not move to D1 per their AD. My "best case" is the ASUN needs to do whatever it takes to get ETSU and Chattanooga. That moves to conference to 14 overall. Get whomever from the CAA (WM?) With Richmond for football only. That makes a 15 school conference with West Florida potential for 16. I wouldn't get Gardner Webb and Charleston Southern as full members but offer a football only membership. ASUN football could be a very nice 12 school conference in this scenario CAA school Richmond* EKU ETSU Chattanooga APSU UCA UNA West Georgia West Florida Gardner Webb* Charleston Southern* But I do think the ASUN needs to focus on football schools especially with the WAC seemingly in turmoil.

Valdosta will not move to D1 per their AD. Herb has finally retired after 31 years. New AD should be announced any day now. These finalists were announced earlier in the month including a current D1 AD. From D1.ticker: CollegeAD reports the Valdosta State (DII) AD search is down to four candidates: Saint Francis (PA) AD James Downer, Florida Senior Assoc. AD for Administration Mike Spiegler, New Mexico Senior Assoc. AD for Revenue Generation Will Price & Northwest Missouri State (DII) Deputy AD for External Operations Troy Katen. No decision-making timeline mentioned.

I can totally believe they don’t WANT to make the move. I just think West Georgia and UWF will force their hand if UWF does make the move. I think if the roles were reversed, we’d be livid if those 3 left us behind. VSU staying D2 would be like us staying while Troy and Jax State left. But probably worse, because I don’t see many ways the GSC could rebuild to anything like it was in the early 2000s.
