Disappointing game. Maybe a closer score if KJ had played, who knows. KSU is obviously the better team, but it probably didn’t help that we caught them off that loss to Queens. They can’t afford to lose again if they want to beat out Liberty for the regular season title.
Let’s beat the hell out of the chickens on Friday and see what happens in the tournament.

Well I was hoping the winning streak at home would continue. Our ball movement on offense made it easy on the KSU defense. When we are passing the ball crisply our offense flows better. We went to Forrest way too late. He can score down low. KSU came in proved why they are at the top of the conference. Didn’t miss many opportunities to score. Going to try and make it to the game with the chickens Friday. We need that one.

They left Howell in with 2 fouls for much of the first half because most of the other starters were on the bench with 2 fouls already. Yet, it was still close at the half. But, they are a tough team and we couldn’t buy a basket in certain stretches. KSU has what most teams want, consistency. But it’s took them a while. They have six players now who have played something like 70+ games together. Maybe more, it was a lot that they displayed on a graphic. These players have stuck around through tough times there and it’s paying off. Their coach started one season after Pujol. I expect them and Liberty to meet in the final. Kind of a weird set up for the tournament I just realized tonight. The 7 will play the 8 at the site of the 2 seed who will play the winner. The 9 will play the 10 at the home court of the 1 seed who will play the winner at that game. Interesting.

I'm not a huge fan of doing the tournament on-campus, but I think I actually like the "play-in" games being on the 1 and 2 seed courts. It's unique. And I actually wonder if it could give the lower seeds more of a fighting chance, since they'll have a couple of days to settle in at the other school, maybe get an additional couple of shoot-arounds on that court, etc. It has to make the players a bit more comfortable than they would be if they just flew or bussed up for the game hours before tip-off. On a disappointing note for us, EKU lost to UNF last night. If we had won, we'd be tied with them for the 4 seed and hold the tiebreaker. Meanwhile Lipscomb won which pulls them into a tie with us for the 5 seed. The conference website shows us above them in the standings, but I'm not sure if that truly indicates our seed or not. We split games with them, have the same overall record - who knows what the tiebreaker is. They play @ Stetson on Friday, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose. But we certainly need to take care of business against JSU. If I'm looking at things correctly, we could still finish anywhere from 4 to 7, depending on how other games go. Bellarmine is currently 7th and only 1 game back, but again, since we split our 2 games I'm not sure if we'd win a tiebreaker with them or not. Wonder what our postseason options would be if we win Friday, and say, win 2 in the tournament to finish 21-13? That would likely mean we lost the championship game. Not sure if the NIT would take us or not. Might need Kennesaw to win the tourney and Liberty to get an at-large in the Dance. But depending on how Stetson finishes, they could still be taken before us. Let's just win out and not let that be an issue.

I'm not going to boggle my mine with it, we wasn't even expected have a winning season, much less make the tournament. I have a feeling, even if the NIT don't happen, the tournament formally known as the CIT most likely will. As strong as the ASUN is this year, it will be a shame not to get a couple of teams in each tournament.

Football is my first love, but going to a packed arena for a meaningful basketball game is the best experience in college sports, IMO. I'd love to have another shot at KSU. If we had a healthy KJ and didn't get into so much foul trouble, I think we'd have a chance to beat them. The thing concerning me about the postseason is our NET ranking. We are somehow still #222. I think the ASUN is pretty underrated, but regardless I think that number hurts. It's why I think we need a really good last few games to have a chance.

If we win the tournament, as hot as we are and if KJ gets healthy it's a possibility, we don't have to depend on NET. The ASUN rankings are lower because of the amount of non D1 teams we end up playing. We would be better off as a conference, sitting down and making a rule of playing only D1 schools. I mean, I'm sure Chicago State and other needed games.

I think the issue (and you probably know it) is that we could play as many D1 teams as we want, it's just that we can't find many schools willing to play us in Florence. The NET rankings are a vicious cycle. Teams don't want to play us because of our low NET rankings, which keeps our NET rankings low. So we have to look to lower division schools to find November and December home games.

Because KJ was injured and couldn't play (according to the game recap on Roar Lions.com) it was the Ortiz and Jacari Show last night. They scored 24 and 22 points respectively while only 4 other UNA players scored and they were all under 10 points. It was nice to see Aidan Kuhl score 6 points and get some playing time.
Don't know how long KJ is injured, but I sure hope that he's ready to go for the conference tournament next week.

If anyone else on the team steps up to help Lane and Ortiz we have a legit shot. Unfortunately we didn’t have anyone step up….also the sign of a young team. Kuhl looks amazing in shoot arounds….can’t wait to see that translate on the court.

I'm a homer of course, but I don't think it's impossible for this team to win the conference title IF everyone is healthy and playing at the top of their game. Liberty is definitely the team that scares me the most. Playing for a championship on their court would be extremely tough. I think we're better now than the team that got blown out by them earlier this year, but how much better?

If everyone is healthy or if our players really step up when we aren't all healthy, then we can win the ASUN tournament.

Hope after tonight we don't take a long break from playing JSU again. Even if it's just in basketball, this rivalry needs to be maintained. Hopefully with them having a UNA alum as AD, we will at least continue to see them frequently. There's no reason it can't be a regular non-conference game for both.
