UNA and Looney can't use the excuse of now one has made a FCS hire yet. Wofford promoted their OC and Charleston Southern hired coach from Albany State.

So we read on here. We really don't know who turned anything down. "So we read on here." We really don't know if the stadium is approved... As we've each heard that UNA was going to build a stadium in the last 10 years about 5 times. That's fair. We really don't. I do feel really confident that the person who told me is in the know. We shall see.

AN UPDATE: The announcement has been delayed as there have been other candidates emerge. Top three candidates are FCS coaches or FBS (G5) assistants. Approval has been given to build a new stadium. There had to be other candidates emerge. Their top 5 all turned it down... Who's the approval from? Who was holding it up to begin with? As for as the stadium, I don’t think anyone has been holding it up. I was told back in the spring that we should be hearing an announcement before the end of the year. That person ( a voting member) told me that they had to make sure all the ducks (finances) were line up correctly. The Board of Trustees will have to vote on it. There is a schedule meeting tomorrow December 2. 2022.

What I do know is that most of the people on this thread are passionate about UNA football. That alone gives me hope for the future.

This is my opinion about the whole situation.
Looney and Kitts both know how important this hire is. They shouldn't just hire someone, they shouldn't just give it to Held. It should be a strenuous prosses no matter who has applied or who was gone after.
What I know about Held, I have talked to him. Would he be my first pick? It depends on the rest of the candidates. He has done something within a year that has surprised me, he has taken in the history and traditions at UNA and wants to be a part of it. I also know, with Held, this is the best offense that I've seen at UNA in a long time, probably since Hud. But even Held knows that you make you money with defense. He told me he has a guy that would be a great DC.
Like I said, still needs to go through a process though. I want the right guy, and it may be someone we wouldn't think would be right. Our jobs are not on the line with this hire, Looneys is. Lets let him do it.

Brent Dearmon, a former highly successful prep coach in the state of Alabama, has emerged as the frontrunner to land the University of North Alabama head coaching job, multiple sources told FootballScoop Thursday.
In fact, multiple sources indicated to FootballScoop this evening that Dearmon is presently on the UNA campus in Florence, Alabama, at this time.

Not Taggart, Brent Dearman. Youngish OC from Mobile. Limited HC experience but there is some in HS down here in Mobile and at his alma mater Bethel up in Tenn. His Bethel team was in that same 2018 NAIA playoff field. They'd went 10-1 that season but lost in OT in the opening round. Heard he turned it down, but I'm hoping my source is wrong. This would be a good hire.

Would definitely be a solid hire. Not a lot of head coach experience but he would bring a lot of energy. Would be really appealing to recruits. Hopefully we can announce those stadiums plans shortly after his announcement..

So IF Dearmon accepted, we should see an official announcement today, right? With a press conference on Monday, or perhaps even Saturday.
He has a good resume, even if it's lacking on experience being a head coach. And, I like that he's from Alabama.
